About the Author

I am a co-founder at WellcomeMat, and am therefore one of the nut jobs that decided that this was an idea worth risking everything for. The fact that you are reading this proves that to a large/lessor extent, I was right. I graduated with an English Lit degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1999, and moved back East to work in video production for Sony Electronics. As part of Sony's "Marcom" division, I helped launch new products to the public via tradeshows and sponsored events (one of which was the TED Show in Monterrey). In October of 2002, I moved back to Boulder and I've been eye deep in tech startups since. I love WellcomeMat, and hope you do too. You can contact Christian via email here or online here.

A Moment of Silence in Boulder

Before WellcomeMat, there was Webroot. And, when I say “there was Webroot,” I mean that I worked for an internet security company that was out-pacing Google’s growth for some time, and that it occurred because of a man named Steve Thomas. Long story short, a bunch of my colleague’s here in Boulder and beyond are dumbfounded, wondering what on Earth happened to this brilliant man, whom also happened to be a great human being.

While I’m sorry to post something on our blog that seemingly has little to do with local video, Steve helped foster an environment so charged with the entrepreneurial spirit that I sometimes wonder if WellcomeMat would have happened without him.

In any event, the message that I hope people take from this is that “The Journey” is really where it’s at: the present moment. Accomplishments might just disappear in an instant. RIP Steve Thomas.
