Selling a Home Because You Have To

About a month ago, we had an issue with someone posting a video on one of our partner sites (ForSaleByOwner). This person was having some trouble getting the video uploaded from their computer. I called expecting to get them on the phone, resolve the issue, and say thank you for using the service - pretty routine. At the time, I was in the car with my wife headed out of the city and off to LBI, NJ for the weekend. So in went the earpiece and up went the windows as the phone began to ring…
She picked up on the third ring, “I’m in the hospital room, let me just go out into the hallway where I can talk.” - so much for routine. The conversation that followed taught me a little something about life and material possessions. As it turns out, the room she just stepped out of was her teenage daughter’s. The young lady is fighting a pretty serious form of cancer and the home is being sold to help pay for medical bills. I was floored, choked up. What can I to do or say that could possibly matter? Honestly, who cares about a video tour when the person on the other end of the line just told you that? Then I realized we could do something. I immediately called Christian and told him what had just happened and we decided to post the house on our homepage.
But there was one problem, it could be seen as us trying to exploit a situation. So we backed off and never did it. A month went by and just last week I received an email. The house has yet to sell, is there anything we can do? You know what… YES there is. Let’s do this. They need help so we’ll help them. In fact, we should try, when possible, to help others as well. So, we hope this is the first of many videos that will go toward good causes. Got a video and a good cause? Let us know.
And please, if you know someone looking for a great deal on a lovely home in Pine Ridge, FL, please please pass along a link to this property.
Thanks!
